Case Study
7″ TurboCaser Enables Liner Installation in Difficult Shale Formations

The Background
- A re-entry Oil Producer Well, located offshore, Abu Dhabi
- Challenging, un-stable and collapsing shale formations through all 8-1/2″ open hole sections
- Lost liners and BHA down hole on previous laterals
- Attempted to run the 7″ liner with an eccentric shoe but failed to pass first obstruction, resulting in pulling out of hole and performing a dedicated clean-out trip which had to address multiple tight spots
The Result
- 7” TurboCaser was installed on the liner string after retrieving previous liner to surface
- 7” TurboCaser was activated immediately upon entering the open hole due to facing an early obstruction and remained active to target depth with 230 gpm flow rate
- 7” TurboCaser successfully reamed through two previously impassable tight spots of shale formations, located at depths of 20 ft and 43 ft, which had obstructed the liner run with eccentric shoe
- Liner was successfully cemented in place with no losses recorded
